Sometimes, all that remains unseen awaits a (unique) color to be discovered.

Capturing the Unseen was the title we gave to our first encounter with the public through art. A title born of our desire to give form to things that cannot be seen, yet accompany us everywhere: emotions, memories, symbols, stories, and choices that give life’s beauty its meaning.

On November 7, 2023, our abstract paintings, created with Pure Gold leaf, Yellow Gold leaf, and White Gold leaf, met Romanian and international audiences for the very first time at the Romanian ESG Summit, held at Nord Events Center in Bucharest. For us, Cristina and Magda Staicut, sisters and emerging self-taught artists, it was a day infused with that rare emotion in which joy and vulnerability intertwine. Until then, each painting had carried its own story in the quiet intimacy of the creative process. That day, those stories began to travel. To be seen, discovered, interpreted, and shared. Our art stepped beyond the intimate space of the studio and entered into dialogue with people, ideas, and different perspectives. We spoke about color and glow, matte tempera and Gold leaf, the delicacy of the gilding process, and the way precious metal leaf can transform the perception of a surface. We discovered the joy of answering questions, listening to others’ interpretations, and witnessing how a single painting could open unexpected pathways in the mind and sensibility of those who encountered it for the very first time.

Among the paintings that drew particular attention were Peerless, Interconnection, Beads of Hope, and Arte, by Magda Staicut, as well as Overwhelmed in Summer…, The Seed of Light, The Eye of Heaven, and Unfolding Secret, by Cristina Staicut. Each brought its own universe of forms, symbols, and luminescence to this encounter with the public, opening new avenues for dialogue about what reveals itself to the eye and what remains to be discovered beyond the painted surface.

Yet the unseen did not end at image’s boundaries.

It resided in the story behind each painting, in hidden symbols, in the intentions that preceded color, and in the choices that so often remained beyond the finished surface. It was also present in the way we worked: in the search for the right materials, in testing and comparing them, in our attention to quality, in the selection of suppliers, and in our care for the provenance, certifications, and traceability of the raw materials we used. In an artistic practice in which Gold leaf holds such a special place, beauty could not be separated from the questions surrounding what lies behind it.

For us, responsibility is not an afterthought, added to a painting once it is complete. It is part of its story, shaped by decisions that may not be visible, yet matter deeply. Like the light reflected by Gold leaf, revealing new nuances depending on the angle from which it is seen, these choices give a painting a dimension that extends beyond what a single glance can capture. Perhaps this is where art and the themes of the summit met most naturally: in the understanding that what is truly valuable is not always what is most apparent. Beyond what can be measured lies what can be felt. Beyond what can be seen lies what is built with patience. And behind every finished work lies an entire universe of intentions, choices, and responsibilities.

Capturing the Unseen was our first public exhibition and the first occasion on which we truly felt that our paintings could become meeting points between different worlds: art and dialogue, expression and consciousness, the beauty of a surface and the depth of all that makes it possible. It was a day marked by the emotion of all first encounters, by conversations that continued from the afternoon well into the evening, by people’s curiosity, and by the distinctive radiance of our paintings in that setting. A day of conversations about art, color, and gilding, in which we also discovered the joy of sharing what defines us as female artists.

We left the event with gratitude and a quiet certainty: art does not end when the final touch is laid upon the canvas. Sometimes, that is where it truly begins. When a painting meets a gaze, an emotion becomes something shared. A story acquires new meanings. And the unseen, without surrendering its mystery, begins to reveal itself.

Sometimes, all that remains unseen awaits a (unique) color to be discovered. In our case, the color of Pure Gold leaf.
