Women in One Hundred Years. A Journey Through Identity and Transformation.
What does it mean to be a woman in a world in constant transformation? How does feminine identity evolve across generations, and what remains beyond the boundaries of an era?
Inspired by these questions, the international exhibition Women in 100 years (100 Yılda Kadın) brought together artistic and visual perspectives exploring the status, representation and evolution of women over the course of a century.
Organized by the Department of Visual Communication Design within the Faculty of Communication at Istanbul Arel University, the exhibition fostered a dialogue among artists and creators from diverse cultural backgrounds and disciplines, within an international framework for artistic exploration.
We were selected for this international juried exhibition and participated as an emerging Romanian artistic duo, bringing our perspective on contemporary abstraction to this context.
Our artistic practice is built upon the interplay of tempera, velvety matte surfaces and precious metal leaf, with a distinctive emphasis on 24-karat Pure Gold leaf. In our works, light and matter become elements of expression, while abstract forms open up a space for personal interpretation, symbolism and reflection.
Within a remarkable artistic dialogue dedicated to women and their transformation over time, abstract painting with Pure Gold leaf offers the possibility of an interpretation that transcends literal representation.
Identity is not reduced to a single image, nor is the female experience confined to a fixed definition. It can be understood as a process of becoming, as memory passed down through generations, and as a creative tension between what society projects onto women and what each woman discovers and asserts about herself.
Our participation in Women in 100 years marks the inclusion of our artistic practice in an international dialogue on representation, identity and change.
For us, as emerging artists, the encounter between the language of abstraction and the theme of womanhood opens up a space for reflection in which individual sensibility can resonate with collective experiences, beyond geographical boundaries and generational divides.
A hundred years represent not solely a measure of time, but a succession of voices, experiences and perspectives through which feminine identity continues to redefine itself.
