“The feeling paints, not the brush. You can color with a piece of charcoal, and all the color tubes in the world will not give you the flax flower blue if you do not have it in your soul.” – Nicolae Grigorescu (1838 – 1907).
Inspired by the words of Nicolae Grigorescu, we chose to bring to the special AccessABILITY Expo – an exhibition organized for the first time in Romania in 2024 by the Romanian Diversity Chamber of Commerce (RDCC), at the National Library of Romania, our contemporary Pop-up art exhibition: A Glowing World and, through this exhibition, a part of the color of our souls and the glow of 24-karat Pure Gold leaf.
On this unique occasion, we chose to exhibit contemporary abstract paintings created with tempera and Pure Gold leaf, on various surfaces, in an attempt to capture the melancholy of the changing season, the emotions it awakens, and the way we perceive them through our own sensitivity. We chose to bring a Romanian feminine perspective to contemporary abstract art with precious metal leaf.
We work with vivid matte tempera colors, with an energy that we hope you can feel and with a luminescence that 24-karat Pure Gold leaf transforms each time light meets the surface of the painting. For us, 24-karat Pure Gold leaf is not merely a decorative element. It is the central part of each artwork, part of our story and, at the same time, part of another reality, through the way it changes before the viewer’s eyes.
We curated this exhibition around color and light, but also around emotion. Red, yellow, orange, blue and violet offered us different states of feeling and allowed us to create a world in which each artwork can be viewed and experienced in its own way.
On each of the three days of the exhibition, through a perfect monochrome of color and 24-karat Pure Gold leaf, we told a story in the colors of the Romanian Diversity Chamber of Commerce.
Yet we also wanted to preserve in our works something of the spectacle of the changing season: the rusty shades of autumn, the blue of the summer sky, the mysterious tones of purple, the light and energy of colors that accompany us from one season to another.
But, above all, we wanted to leave room for imagination.
We did not propose a single interpretation. We proposed an encounter with color, matter and light, in the hope that visitors would discover a landscape, a memory, a feeling, or simply a combination of colors that speaks to them. About feelings, about experiences, about possibilities and about a unique, almost perfect luminescence created by the precious metal leaf.
As part of AccessABILITY Expo, we are delighted to bring this glowing world into a context dedicated to inclusion and accessibility.
We believe that ART is a universal language, accessible to everyone. A language that does not need the same words in order to be felt. A language in which every viewer can find their own meaning, their own emotion and their own place.
Through this exhibition, we invite you to discover A Glowing World – a world of color, light, sensitivity and emotion.
A world we have created together and which, for a few days only, we invite you to discover together with us, at the National Library of Romania in Bucharest.
